About

Welcome to the blog.

I get asked about the name for my blog a lot, so here’s the skinny. Before I ever considered baking as a vocation, my biggest dream was to become a symphonic musician. If you take food out of the picture, my best memories revolve around music. I grew up in a house built on mom’s cooking and dad’s loud laugh, sure. But the real bones of the house were made of Broadway scores and heavy tomes of Chopin. I’m named after an Argentinian auntie: Lia Tamburini. She was a concert pianist in Buenos Aires and I carried her legacy with great pride when I was in music. A few years ago I started going by Dahlia because I am a flower only I could have grown. The bones are still there- including Lia’s sheet music. I sing in a choir and my french horn sits in the closet, but I never want to lose touch with that feeling of hiking out to a place of tallgrass at sunset and playing whatever Strauss concerto was sitting in my back pocket.

Prairie Horn Girl was my identity for the longest time and now this is a new legacy to carry on. It’s something I’ve been growing. The hospitality, hijinks, and camaraderie at band camp are not too different from what I get up to now. The biggest difference is teatime is no longer in a cottage behind a cornfield. Teatime is just every day at the bakeshop. And that is the greatest privilege of all.
